We all love make up, for me its my time to express myself and to play a little!
However the down side to wearing make up, is the removing it before bed time.
Now it might be easier to avoid taking your make up off, but it does come with a heavy price.
Sleeping is so important, not only for your skin but also for your body. “The most important thing you can do for your skin may be getting a great night’s sleep,” according to Dr. Howard Murad.
“During your sleep cycle, your skin rebuilds itself from any of the environmental or physical stress it may have incurred throughout the day. That’s why after a good night’s sleep, you may notice that your skin has a glowing quality to it because it had plenty of time to heal. Your skin is also more receptive while you sleep, which makes it an ideal time to apply moisturizers, serums, and medications. So if you do happen to fall asleep with your makeup on, know that you’re depriving your skin of some serious quality time.” http://www.healthyportal.com
There is a lot of talk about how acne is linked to wearing makeup and not removing at night, but I think this is debatable. Maybe a few years ago I could agree, but these days, makeup is so different. Some brands even say that sleeping with their foundation can be beneficial because of the minerals and vitamins added to their products, but this hasn’t been proven. Makeup can actually ‘feed’ your skin.
I do recommend though that you try and do some make up free days. So that your skin just has the nutrition of your skincare to absorb but doing this is optional. Ultimately you need to know your skin. Many people can advise you on products to use, but you need to know what works for you and what doesn’t. Just because it is more expensive doesn’t always mean that it will be perfect for your skin.
So yes, for my skin, I must remove my makeup at night because I wake up looking very old and tired. And for you it might not affect your skin condition the next morning but you could have long term damage. Prevention is always better than trying to find a cure!
